Teaching / Consulting
As an educator with more than 40 years of experience in teaching and facilitation, Gail is equally at home in a classroom, community, or private setting. From children and teens to college students, adults and seniors, she reaches across difference to create stimulating and enriching arts experiences.
After more than 20 years as a high school English teacher, Gail founded Elder Voices, offering writing programs for seniors and inter-generational arts programs at schools, senior centers, retirement homes and hospitals. As part of these programs she gave workshops, organized readings, and published anthologies. Recognizing her skill as an artist and teacher, the Massachusetts Cultural Council chose Gail to mentor other artists and lead community arts programs throughout the state. For the next 20 years, she taught at community and four-year colleges and was a learning specialist at Smith College's Jacobson Center for Teaching and Learning . Gail teaches private and community poetry workshops at colleges, libraries, and under the auspices of Pioneer Valley Writers Workshops. |

"I learned a great deal from Gail's workshops and left feeling inspired, with new perspectives and ways into my work. I was so motivated that I reached out to Gail for a manuscript consultation; specifically, for two chapbooks-in-progress. Gail provided detailed, instructive, and timely feedback and analyses of my poems, the collections broadly as well as individual ones, also resources for where best to place and position my work. Incredibly helpful! Gail is a phenomenal teacher and poet." M.F.
"I have worked with Gail on revisions of a series of poems. I have found her suggestions and her skillful attention to craft, word choices and line breaks extremely valuable . I have learned a lot by just reading and following her comments and reviews. She has been a great asset and a reliable sounding board for me as I go through the painstaking process of revision." S.M. "Being in Gail's workshop felt as if a window suddenly opened in my life at a time when I didn't expect anything new to happen." |
